Julie Quiroz

Narrative Strategy Director

In 2020 Julie helped spark the creation of Birth Center Equity and has been a core team member since its birth, leading BCE’s narrative and communications as a volunteer, consultant, and now as a full time staff. Julie leads BCE’s Birth Center Week, BCE Communications (including social media and BCE Impact Report), and BCE narrative strategy which seeks to move millions of hearts and minds to embrace Beloved Birth. In everything she does, Julie centers the power and vision of community stories to bring forth a world where all communities have access to safe and loving birth care provided by midwives.

As a strategist who centers narrative and cultural power, Julie led New Moon Collaborations, which included New Moon Productions, where she executive produced video stories including Lead With Us: Birth Detroit and Colorado Birth Equity Victory. Julie launched New Moon after 11 years with Movement Strategy Center (MSC), where she served on the MSC leadership team. Prior to MSC, Julie played strategy, organizing, advocacy, and philanthropy roles in immigrant rights and racial justice in California and Washington, DC for over three decades. Julie’s publications include Love With Power: Practicing Transformation for Social Justice, Guide to Grantmaking with a Racial Equity Lens, and Love & Other Futures: Poetry of Untold Stories of Liberation & Love. Julie is Ecuadorian American born in Michigan and solo mama of a young adult daughter.

Julie lives in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico where she supports local leadership in regenerating ancestral agriculture and dances salsa almost nightly.
